Measurements 1

 

Introduction

Measurement  is a core subject that practically describes the whole purpose of the Quantity Surveying profession. This subject teaches us to do everything thing we need to know about taking off a project. From dimension papers, to query sheet to billing paper, we learned the system and style of writing it all out. We also learned to measure and visualize the structure of the building from the drawing plan.

 

 

Assignment 1

In this assignment we were given an actual drawing project to calculate the quantities. It was really an interesting project because we had the chance to experience how to calculate like a real quantity surveyor. It was a five storey hostel building and we were divided to groups of ten for the project. We had to do the measurements for the excavations and pilecaps, ground beams and slabs, upper floor beams and slabs, columns and also the roof beam and slabs of the building. It was really a tough assignment as all ten of us had to cooperate to complete it. It taught us to be systematic and also attentive with all the measurements. Besides that this assignment also taught us to apply the knowledge that we have learnt in this subject to the project.

 

 

Assignment 2

This second assignment was a site visit report assignment. It was a rather fun and great experience carrying out this assignment as we went into an actual site for the report. Our lecturer arranged a site visit for us to the Symphony Hills housing estate located in Cyberjaya. It was interesting because we got to see and understand more from what we learned in class. Form this visit I got the chance to understand the construction industry better. With that knowledge I could apply it in my future undertakings. From the whole visit, we were supposed to come up with a report. The report could be found in the attachment below.
