Estimating

Introduction

This module provides an introduction on the principle of estimating and components prices such as material, plant, wastage, profit and labour. From this subject, I've learnt on how the estimated price is built up in the construction industry. I have also learned to identify, explain and distinguish the various terminology related to estimating, measurement and unit rates including the objectives and various components of estimating, measurement and unit rates at different stages of construction procurement.

Assignment 1

This assignemnt is carried out in a form of a seminar. This assignment is carried out in groups. Thus, Each group is given a theory question and a calculation question. The respctive groups were given a fair period of time to solve the questions and conduct a seminar to present their solutions and findings. Part of this assignemnt is also graded by the students as the groups have to interact with one another during the seminar to esure that the information is effectively presented.

Assignment 2

For this assignment we were grouped to participate in a tender exercise. This exercise includes a tender submission and a post tender evaluation. This assignment is rather interesting because we were assigned to seek material prices from the suppliers in order to obtain the build up rates for the tenders. Besides that, we also have a tender submission deadline to meet. Thus time management for this assignment is essential. After the submission, the tender documents are sent for tender evaluation and the tenderers that won have to undergo a tender interview. From the interview an the assignemnt, I now have a rough idea and experince on how a real tender is conducted.
