Introduction

Structures introduces the structural aspects in a building, whereby, we are also taught the factors that affect the structures in a building,relevant calculations on how to determine the live loads and dead loads that pertain to a specific building. This modules highlights the importance of understanding how to determine if a structure is strong enough to withstand loads of high magnitute. Students are also made familiar with basics knowledge from a structural engineers point of view.

 

 

Assignment 1

The assignment covers the calculation aspects on forces, shear forces and bending moment of the various types of beam. We were assigned to plot the forces using the Graphical Method that was taught by the lecturer. This assignment was beneficial because we had the chance to learn an alternative way of solving a problem.
